🥈 Confessions of a Frequent Blocker ðŸ˜‚

Dating is definitely not what it used to be.

I genuinely don’t know what women some of these men have been talking to because somewhere along the way they got way too comfortable.

People ask me all the time, “You really blocked him for that?”

Absolutely.

And before anyone says, “Maybe you just weren’t attracted to them…”

No.

Obviously, I was interested enough to answer the phone, reply to the text, or keep the conversation going.

Every single one of these men had a shot.

Then… they started talking.

I blocked a guy because…

I told him I had to get off the phone to take a shower.

His response?

“Can I join you?”

Sir…

We’ve been talking for 17 minutes.

Blocked.

I blocked a guy because…

During our very first conversation, he wanted to know how quickly I’d move in with someone because physical touch and emotional connection are important to him.

Slow down, Zillow.

We haven’t even established whether we’d enjoy eating dinner together.

Blocked.

I blocked a guy because…

Our first conversation somehow turned into him telling me about all the women he used to hook up with when he lived in Miami.

Then, without skipping a beat, he told me his 21-year-old daughter sometimes walks around naked because they’re “just comfortable like that.”

I…

What?

Blocked.

I blocked a guy because…

We had only texted.

Never talked on the phone.

Never met.

I told him I was spending the day at the beach with my family.

His response?

“Send me pictures. I’m sure you’ll look hot with a tan.”

Sir…

We’re still in the “I barely know your last name” stage.

Blocked.

I blocked a guy because…

He casually mentioned he didn’t currently have a place to live and was couch surfing.

I truly wish you the best.

Just… from someone else’s couch.

Blocked.

I blocked a guy because…

He proudly told me he doesn’t speak to anyone in his family.

I know every situation is different, and there are always exceptions.

But life has taught me to pay attention when someone says that like it’s no big deal.

Blocked.

I blocked a guy because…

He sent me an unsolicited body picture.

It’s honestly fascinating to me that some men wake up and think,

“You know what’s really going to impress her?”

Spoiler alert…

It wasn’t.

Blocked.

I blocked a guy because…

Mind you, we’d been talking for all of… one day.

I posted a video of my family hanging out at the pool.

His message?

“Next time, point the camera a little lower… under the waist.”

Somehow you watched a family video and thought,

“This is the perfect time to make it sexual.”

Blocked.

The crazy part?

None of these men got blocked because I wasn’t attracted to them. Obviously, I was talking to them for a reason.

They got blocked because they skipped right over getting to know me and went straight to… whatever all that was.

Maybe it works.

I honestly don’t know.

But judging by my conversations with friends, the comments on social media, and about half of TikTok, I’m starting to think we’re all out here meeting the same people.

Which leaves me with one question…

Who is telling these guys this is a good idea?

Because somewhere, there has to be a woman who responded to,

“Can I join you in the shower?”

or

“Move the camera a little lower…”

with,

“Wow… this is exactly the mature, emotionally intelligent man I’ve been waiting for.”

And honestly…

I’d just like to meet her.

Hi, I’m Mercy. Life has taken me through many seasons, some beautiful, some painful, and many that reshaped me in ways I never could have planned. Over a decade ago, I began writing as a way to survive a difficult chapter of my life. Since then, my journey has expanded, deepened, and taken more turns than I ever imagined. Today, my children are adults, and I find myself in a new season, one of reflection, intention, and rediscovery. I’m no longer building life from the ground up, but rather learning how to live it with presence and purpose. This space has evolved with me. What I write about now isn’t about chasing happiness or manifesting a perfect future. It’s about learning how to stay grounded in the present. It’s about faith over fear, gratitude over anxiety, and choosing intention in a world that constantly pulls us in every direction. It’s about growth, real, imperfect, human growth. I’ve learned that life doesn’t move in straight lines. It loops, pauses, reroutes, and sometimes asks us to begin again, just from a wiser place. Writing has remained my anchor through all of it. It helps me slow down, make sense of my thoughts, and reconnect with what matters most. This blog is a collection of reflections from someone still becoming. I don’t write as an expert or a coach with all the answers. I write as a woman who has lived, learned, stumbled, healed, and continues to choose intention, one day at a time. If you’re here, maybe you’re in a season of your own, letting go, starting over, or simply learning how to breathe a little deeper. Wherever you are, I hope these words remind you that growth doesn’t have an expiration date, and peace is something we practice, not something we arrive at. I’m glad you found your way here.
